Houston Begins The Year With Heavy Storms

The city of Houston, Texas has been experiencing a lot of rain since the beginning of the year. 2012 has proven to be a very active year when it comes to rain fall. As the article published by Click2Houston explains, it has been about twenty years since the city has started the year this wet.

Twenty years ago, in 1992, the city experienced 11.7 inches of rain from January 1st to February 19th. This year, as the article states “ 11.05 inches of rain has fallen at Bush Intercontinental Airport, putting Houston in 6th place for the wettest start to the year.” The risk of power outages has increased due to the regular thunderstorms.

Preparing in case of a blackout, by purchasing nonperishable goods as well as considering the purchase of a quality emergency standby generator. As the year goes on, and we near the summer season, the rainfall is predicted to increase dramatically.

Heavy Rains Result In Power Outages

As the cold front moved into Houston, Texas, heavy thunderstorms threatened the city.  Unexpected rain, ranging from 1.5 to more than 3 inches, caused about 11,000 residents to be left without power early Saturday morning.

The Houston Chronicle stated that the number of people still without electricity has slowly been reduced and the worst storms have moved on. Roads in rural areas, such as Grimes County, have been closed.

As we near the summer season, more and more storms will begin to form and cause blackouts for many Houston, Texas residents. It is important to go over supplies and check to make sure you are prepared in case of a power outage.  Whether it is by purchasing canned food or a standby generator, leaving these important steps until the last minute, could cause you to suffer the negative steps of a power outage for days or even weeks.

Have You Had Your Generator Serviced?

As the winter continues in Florida and Houston, Texas many residents have been enjoying beautiful weather, with barely any storms. This has created a sense of relief, knowing the possibilities of a power outage are minimal.

Neglecting a standby generator can happen when it has not been put to use in a long time. This can become a serious problem when the power suddenly goes out, and you realize your equipment is not working properly.

Making sure your emergency generator is in good shape should be your priority. There are companies whose main goal is not only to provide you with affordable generators, but to also help service propane and natural gas powered generators.  Some can even offer maintenance agreements for the efficient operation and long life of the units.

Verify that the company in charge of the maintenance and servicing of your generator has the right license and years of experience. It can mean the difference between having no power for weeks or just a few seconds.
