Houston Begins The Year With Heavy Storms


The city of Houston, Texas has been experiencing a lot of rain since the beginning of the year. 2012 has proven to be a very active year when it comes to rain fall. As the article published by Click2Houston explains, it has been about twenty years since the city has started the year this wet.

Twenty years ago, in 1992, the city experienced 11.7 inches of rain from January 1st to February 19th. This year, as the article states “ 11.05 inches of rain has fallen at Bush Intercontinental Airport, putting Houston in 6th place for the wettest start to the year.” The risk of power outages has increased due to the regular thunderstorms.

Heavy Rains Result In Power Outages


As the cold front moved into Houston, Texas, heavy thunderstorms threatened the city.  Unexpected rain, ranging from 1.5 to more than 3 inches, caused about 11,000 residents to be left without power early Saturday morning.

The Houston Chronicle stated that the number of people still without electricity has slowly been reduced and the worst storms have moved on. Roads in rural areas, such as Grimes County, have been closed.
